Discover Yumyum

Tucked along 20 Rue Parlement Sainte-Catherine, 33000 Bordeaux, France, Yumyum sits right in the beating heart of the old city, just steps away from the lively shopping streets and historic façades that make Bordeaux so magnetic. I first wandered in on a rainy afternoon after exploring nearby boutiques, looking for something warm and satisfying. What I found was more than a quick bite-it was a place that clearly understands flavor, consistency, and the simple pleasure of a well-crafted meal.

The location alone makes it convenient. Rue Parlement Sainte-Catherine is one of those streets that locals and tourists naturally drift toward. Being in central Bordeaux means easy access whether you’re walking from Place de la Bourse or heading back from the Sainte-Catherine shopping district. For anyone mapping out dining options in Bordeaux city center, this address is practical and memorable.

The menu leans into Asian street food influences, with generous noodle bowls, rice dishes, and fresh ingredients that speak for themselves. On my first visit, I ordered a steaming bowl of ramen-style noodles topped with marinated chicken, crisp vegetables, and a perfectly soft egg. The broth had depth without being overpowering. According to culinary research from institutions like Le Cordon Bleu, balance between umami, salt, acidity, and texture is key to memorable dishes-and that balance is something this kitchen handles confidently. The flavors weren’t just bold; they were structured.

I’ve since brought friends back to test consistency-because one good meal can be luck, but three good meals suggest a reliable process. Each time, the preparation felt deliberate. Ingredients were fresh, portions generous, and plating neat without being pretentious. Watching the open kitchen in action, you can see the workflow: quick stir-frying at high heat, precise assembly of bowls, and careful garnishing. High-heat cooking, often used in Asian cuisine, helps seal in flavor while preserving texture. That’s exactly what you taste here-vegetables that still have crunch, proteins that stay juicy.

Reviews from other diners echo similar sentiments. Many highlight the friendly staff and efficient service, especially during peak hours. In a busy Bordeaux dining scene where wait times can stretch, quick yet attentive service matters. The team here manages to move fast without making you feel rushed. It’s casual, but not careless.

From a nutritional perspective, bowls like the ones served here can offer a balanced mix of carbohydrates, lean protein, and vegetables. According to the World Health Organization, incorporating varied vegetables and moderate protein portions into daily meals supports overall health. While this isn’t marketed as a health-focused restaurant, the structure of the menu naturally aligns with those recommendations. You can customize spice levels, swap ingredients, or opt for vegetarian options, making it accessible to different dietary preferences.

The atmosphere plays its part too. The interior feels modern and clean, with simple décor and communal tables that encourage a laid-back vibe. It’s the kind of spot where students, office workers, and travelers sit side by side. During one lunch visit, I noticed a group of university students discussing exams while a couple nearby quietly shared dumplings. That mix of energy gives the place character.

Pricing is another strength. In a city known for fine dining and wine culture, finding a spot that delivers quality food at reasonable prices is refreshing. You get solid value for money, especially considering the central location. Compared to some tourist-heavy restaurants nearby, this feels more grounded and authentic.

Of course, like any popular spot, it can get crowded during peak dinner hours. If you prefer a quieter experience, arriving early is a smart move. Still, turnover is efficient, and tables free up quickly.

In the wider Bordeaux restaurant landscape-filled with bistros, brasseries, and wine bars-this diner-style eatery carves out its own identity. It’s approachable, flavorful, and dependable. For anyone exploring dining options in central Bordeaux and scanning reviews for something casual yet satisfying, this address deserves serious consideration.

  • A wonderful Korean food experience. We started with spicy Korean chicken and Korean dumplings — everything was hot, fresh, and delicious. For the main course, we had a meat dish, and the meat was so perfectly cooked it just melted in our mouths. The service was warm and friendly. I highly recommend visiting this place!

  • Had a spontaneous dinner with friends at this lovely restaurant just a couple days ago. As a new restaurant that had just opened down my house we were curious to try it and were not disappointed, we had such a great night! Attentive service and very delicious food, we enjoyed every dish. Everything was delicious but I had an extra sweet spot for the kimchi nem! Wine was also very nice and affordable. We I’ll be back!

  • This Korean restaurant truly impressed me. The taste was amazing, and you can tell they put a lot of effort into each dish. They marinate everything themselves, and it really shows in the rich, authentic flavors. I recommend the tteokbokki and the ginger tea. Plus, the waitresses were super kind and attentive. Highly recommend!

  • If you’re in Bordeaux and have appetite for Asian food or Korean food specifically, YumYum is really a hidden gem. Their bibimbap, Tteokbokki and especially their spicy fried chicken are all splendid. The staff is also super friendly and they could speak good English, so it was easy to find the food I was looking for. The prices are also very appropriate for the quality. Cozy vibes, amazing food—simply lovely!
